A woman was tragically killed after being hit by a falling tree branch at a park, police have confirmed.

The incident was reported at Witton Country Park in Blackburn, Lancashire, near to the Buncer Lane entrance shortly after 8.30pm on Monday (August 11). The woman was understood to have been walking with a child when it happened.

Emergency services attended promptly and found the woman, believed to be in her 30s, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead by responding paramedics at the scene.

The area was cordoned off after the incident and Blackburn with Darwen Council, which owns the 480-acre park, has since felled the beech tree from which the branch fell, LancsLive reports.
