CLINTON, Tenn. (WATE) — A 21-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after his mother was killed.
Shawn Willis was sentenced to 30 years in prison to be served at 100%. A release from the District Attorney General's Office shared that Willis was 16 at the time of the shooting. The DA explained that the sentence in the case was influenced by the restrictions placed on juveniles convicted of murder in Tennessee.
Willis' mother was found with a fatal gunshot wound in April 2020. The investigation by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office identified Willis as a suspect in the crime. According to the DA, he confessed to shooting his mother while she was sleeping. Willis told detectives that he was upset his mother took his phone and kept him from talking with his girlfriend.
