Chicago ― Scott Harris demands his pitchers dominate the strike zone. Now, then, you know why the Tigers' front-office chief was so intrigued to add Chris Paddack in a trade with the Minnesota Twins last month.

Paddack has put on a strike-throwing clinic since joining the Tigers. In his three starts, he's thrown nearly 72% of his pitches for strikes, including 71% in Monday night's 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field.

On Monday, Paddack threw 76 pitches, 54 for strikes, during his 5.1 innings. He threw first-pitch strikes to 18 of 20 batters, good for a 90% clip. He walked just one, the first walk in his brief Tigers career.

It didn't take Harris to convince him to go after hitters. He got that lesson from a high-school coach back in Texas.
