GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Branch County man has been sentenced to more than 50 years of prison for sexual assault, according to the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
Alex New, 55, was sentenced to 58 years in prison on Monday after previously being convicted on one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and a count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Investigators say that he sexually assaulted a minor.
New was charged in 2016 by the Branch County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, but fled the state, before being found in Florida and returned to Michigan in June 2024 through Operation Survivor Justice — a partnership with the AG's Office, the U.S. Marshal Service and local county prosecutors to locate and return fugitive offenders in Michigan who have outstanding se
