Rain could impact NC DOT's ramp reopening before school year: I-40W to be down to one lane near Union Cross Rd

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — UPDATE: The ramp is open as of 5 a.m.

We are on ramp watch. The NC DOT closed down the I-40 West ramp on Union Cross Road in Kernersville in mid-June with the promise it would reopen by the time the kids went back to school. That's Wednesday, August 13.

So, will it happen?

"If there's no more showers today, we could be done by midnight. But if we get that other round of showers, it looks like it's coming through, just depends on how long it lasts and how long it takes us to dry the pavement before we can put the markings down and open the ramp to traffic," said Larry Shaver, NC DOT, Resident Engineer, Division 9.

NC DOT crews will close down one lane on I-40 West at Union Cross at 9 pm. That's when they'll get the leaf blowers and broom machines out to help
