ATLANTA — The mother of a young officer killed in the line of duty on Friday remembers her son wanting to do something more rewarding with his life and help people.
33-year-old David Rose recently graduated from the police academy before joining the DeKalb County Police Department in September 2024.

The department said he was the first officer on scene to encounter the active shooter outside the CDC's headquarters and the Emory Point CVS on Aug. 8. The incident occurred near an area where his mother used to work: Emory Hospital.
