PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio (WJW) – Freshwater jellyfish have been spotted in Lake Erie, right off the coast of Put-in-Bay and other Ohio islands.
The non-native species is very rare in Lake Erie, according to The Ohio State University Stone Laboratory. There have been multiple sightings of them around the islands over the weekend and in Erie, Pennsylvania, last week.
Research Coordinator at Stone Laboratory Justin Chaffin, PhD, told FOX 8 News that he has been conducting research in Lake Erie and around Put-In-Bay for 20 years, but had never seen a jellyfish until Monday. • Lake Erie Jellyfish (Photo Credit: Stone Lab Research Coordinator Dr. Justin Chaffin and Stone Lab Tech Kelly Peterson) • Lake Erie Jellyfish (Photo Credit: Stone Lab Research Coordinator Dr. Justin Chaffin and Stone Lab Te
