NEW LONDON, Ohio (WJW) - A survey team with the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Huron County during storms early Wednesday morning.

The EF-1 tornado, about 0.33 miles long and 50 yards wide, touched down in New London at 2:04 a.m., reaching peak winds of 90 miles per hour.

Surveyors said the tornado blew over one of the bullpens at a small baseball field at the New London Recreation Area before snapping a large tree in Grove Street Cemetery and heading into a residential area of the village.

"Residents reported their ears popping and their homes shaking during the event," the NWS said in the report.
