GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids has a bold plan to reduce 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

This week, the city passed the first portion of its ambitious Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP), a 115-page document charting how Grand Rapids will work to tackle climate change over the next several decades.

The plan includes a wide range of goals related to creating more sustainable energy systems, residential homes, buildings and industry, transportation and more.

It’s unclear how much the plan may cost the city in the long run -- some of the suggested actions may include simple zoning ordinance and policy changes, while others could require investments in city infrastructure.
