OCEANA COUNTY, MI – A 46-year-old Shelby man was fatally shot Thursday morning, Aug. 14, police said.

The shooting was reported around 7:10 a.m. in the 4000 block of East Buchanan Road in Oceana County’s Ferry Township.

Oceana County sheriff’s deputies and state police responded and found the man deceased. Investigators from both agencies and the state police crime laboratory remained at the scene Thursday afternoon.

“We have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public from this incident,” Sheriff Craig Mast said in a statement.

He said police would not provide further information at this time.

Mason County sheriff’s detectives and Ludington police detectives are assisting with the investigation.
