COLUMBIA, S.C. - Dates are now set for the process to replace a now-former South Carolina state lawmaker via special election.

The South Carolina Election Commission confirmed that a special election for South Carolina House District 88, based in Lexington County, will be held on Dec. 23.

The following other dates were made official on Tuesday:

Candidate filing opens: Aug. 29

Candidate filing closes: Sept. 6

Primary election: Oct. 21

Primary election runoff (if necessary): Nov. 4

Special election: Dec. 23

The election will be held to fill the seat of ex-state Rep. RJ May.

May resigned nearly two months after receiving a federal indictment related to child sexual abuse material.
