JARRATT, Va. (WWBT) - In the coming months, Boar’s Head is planning to reopen their deli meat plant in Jarratt, which shut down last year following a deadly listeria outbreak.
The facility hasn’t been operational since last July after the outbreak, which led to 10 deaths and sickened dozens.
“Our investigation has identified the root cause of the contamination as a specific production process that only existed at the Jarratt facility and was used only for liverwurst,” the company said on its website at the time of the plant’s closure back in September. “With this discovery, we have decided to permanently discontinue liverwurst.”
The facility shut down in September after officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture suspended operations, finding the company, “failed to maintain sani
