MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A 24-year-old with an extensive criminal history in Shelby County is now charged with first-degree murder, three weeks after a deadly shooting in Frayser.

The suspect, Ladarius Carter, is also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun in connection with the homicide, which occurred July 22 at the Corning Village Apartments off Steele Street.

According to the arrest affidavit, the victim, Tyreker Childress, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Carter was identified as a suspect after Memphis police say surveillance video showed him, the victim, and another man speak to the occupants of a sedan that was coming through the complex just before 1 a.m.

Police say that Carter and that other man began firing
