HERNANDO, Miss. (WMC) – The DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that a DeSoto County jury has found 42-year-old Ricquan Thomas guilty of felony child abuse following a trial that began Monday.
On July 12, 2024, Thomas struck his 12-year-old son multiple times in the face, torso, arms, legs, and back by punching and kicking.
The boy suffered extensive bruising, swelling, and a broken wrist during the attack. Thomas did not seek medical treatment for his son.
The victim, who has multiple special needs, was visiting his father for part of the summer after years of estrangement.
The victim’s mother, who was working out of state as a traveling nurse, contacted Child Protective Services after learning of the injuries.
