URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The Urbana City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Urbana Police Department's Zachery Mikalik to Deputy Chief Monday night.

The City of Urbana stated in an Aug. 12 press release that Mikalik has spent 18 years with the UPD and currently serves as the Services Division Commander.

Mikalik was credited with launching several key initiatives, including an officer wellness program, a structured internship program and a live-action crisis co-response team.

He has also led initiatives in officer training, wellness, system modernization and community engagement.
