More than 100 headstones and monuments, some of which date back to the 1800s, were vandalized and damaged at a Connecticut cemetery this week, according to police.

The vandalism occurred sometime between 8 p.m. on Monday and 7 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Meriden.

The Meriden Police Department first received calls about the vandalism around 7 a.m. Tuesday, reported the Hartford Courant. A responding officer then met with a property maintenance worker to walk the entire grounds, during which they found that dozens of headstones, monuments and obelisks had been knocked off their bases.

Some of the structures were significantly cracked and may be impossible to repair, according to police. Others had gouge marks consistent with being struck with a cable or a chain.
