Fifteen years ago, Livia Beirnes was left zip-tied to a pole in the basement of her burning Oakwood Avenue home in St. Catharines and left to die.

The 76-year-old’s neighbours, seeing flames and hearing her cries for help, were the first to try to come to her aid on the night of Aug. 4, 2010.

Beirnes was eventually pulled from the house alive, taken to the St. Catharines hospital and later airlifted to a Toronto hospital in critical condition. However, she died of her injuries a day later.

Despite the passage of so many years, Niagara Regional Police have not given up on solving the homicide case which shook the city.

Police issued a news release last week marking the 15th anniversary of the fire at 11 Oakwood Ave. asking people with any information about the case to contact them.
