The Huntington Beach Police Department is aiming to shorten its response time to crime scenes or emergency situations by sending drones first before officers get there.
Starting on Sep. 13, when a 911 call is received, the police department will send the flying devices in the first-of-its-kind program in Orange County.

If a burglary is reported, for example, the drone pilot can enter the address and send the drone to the specific location.
“We can punch in the location. It can take off by itself and fly directly to that location,” said Det. Taylor Davoren. “At any point, I can start recording, take video footage where suspects can be.”
