State lawmakers are about to take a hard look at Georgia college costs in light of eye-opening data showing the size of student college debt.

"I'm at Georgia Tech. I am under mounds of debt," chuckled Kayla Evans, who says she can laugh about her college debt because she's convinced that at some point she's going to succeed in business.

"I'm a venture capitalist who has really high hopes for Kayla Evans," she said.

It's not just the cost of college. She and other students say it's the cost of living and other expenses that are keeping less-privileged students from getting a college education.

"I'm living off goodwill and yeah, really nice APR deals on credit cards," Evans added.

She has plenty of company.
