Flooding is expected in the Mendenhall Valley in Juneau after the Suicide Basin began releasing water. This is now the third year in a row that these floods have occurred.

Ryan O'Shaughnessy with the City & Borough of Juneau exclaims, "This is a very dangerous situation. We are issuing an evacuation notification for everyone who lives in the 17-foot Michael Baker inundation layer with no HESCOs."

Currently, flooding is expected to truly begin late Tuesday, with a record-breaking peak somewhere between 16.3-16.8 feet to occur midday Wednesday. The city is urging folks to stay away from the Mendenhall River for public safety reasons as well as to help reduce traffic during the evacuation.
