LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - An hours-long standoff in Lawrence ended when officers were able to take the sleeping suspect into custody.
The Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department says that around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, emergency crews were called to the area of 23rd St., between Louisiana and Vermont St., with reports of a woman in distress.
Investigators said they had reason to believe a man inside a nearby home had been a danger to himself and others. When they arrived, they found the man had threatened to get violent and would not come out.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the woman was brought to safety as the Crisis Response Team set up a perimeter and went to work.
