Derby County booked their place in the second round of the Carabao Cup as Josh Vickers proved the hero against West Brom as the Rams won 3-2 on a penalty shootout.

After the game finished 1-1 in normal time with Joe Ward levelling with the last kick of the game, the tie went to spotkicks with Vickers saving twice to deny Jed Wallace and Karlan Grant.

Derby head coach John Eustace had made nine changes to the team from the defeat at Stoke with the likes of Carlton Morris, Ryan Nyambe and Matt Clarke given the night off.

Albion showed a squad full of strength in depth and started with purpose and Ousmane Diakite was the first to have a strike at goal with a header from outside the box but it was straight down the throat of Josh Vickers who made a comfortable save.
