Courtenay’s fire chief says a blaze that sparked close to a trailer on a residential property along Highway 19A began spreading amid windy conditions.
Firefighters were called to the fire north of Courtenay, near the Courtenay Country Market grocery store, around 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to Kurt MacDonald.
The chief says no injuries were reported in the fire, which started near a travel trailer before quickly spreading to an outbuilding. “Driven by high winds,” the flames “extended into nearby grass and a small stand of trees,” he says.
The intense heat from the burning structures and vegetation caused damage to the main residence, melting siding on the rear of the home, MacDonald tells CHEK News.
