WASHINGTON, D.C. – After just 24 hours, the battle lines are clearly drawn in the war of words over President Donald Trump’s law enforcement takeover of Washington, D.C.

City officials and their Democratic allies contend that the Trump initiative is totally unjustified, given that crime statistics in the nation’s capital are actually declining.

But the White House has responded to those claims by accusing the city’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of “cooking the books” regarding crime data.

The union representing MPD officers agrees with the White House, according to the inside-the-Beltway journal Daily Caller .

It’s all a matter of whose statistics you care to believe.
