AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Leaders were expected to decide Tuesday what would go on the list of proposed SPLOST 9 projects with an eye toward sending the sales tax to voters in November.

Instead, Augusta Commission members decided to delay the election until May. Now they likely won’t finalize a list of projects until January.

Also Tuesday, they approved an increase in garbage rates and streetlight fees.

SPLOST delay

SPLOST is a 1% sales tax. Currently, we’re under SPLOST 8, which ends in October 2026. Then if SPLOST 9 is approved, the tax would be extended but would not rise.

On Tuesday when leaders met to finalize the SPLOST 9 list, Commissioner Don Clark made the motion to move the decision from November ballot to a May 2026 ballot.
