BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - On Monday, the American Heart Association released a major advisory emphasizing that most ultra‑processed foods are linked to increased risks for heart attacks, stroke, type 2 diabetes, obesity and even premature death.
They say ultra-processed foods have multiple industrial ingredients that don’t resemble their original form. Common examples of ultra-processed food include soda, packaged snacks like candy, and reconstituted meat products like hot dogs.
Health experts say you don’t have to give them up altogether, but you should enjoy them in moderation.
“A lot of the time, we use the rule of 80-20. Eighty percent of the time, whole foods, minimally processed, and 20 percent of the time we can enjoy some of those treats, fun foods, salty foods that we might enjoy
