Six tenants affected by an apartment fire on Queens Avenue in Victoria are still unhoused as the Canadian Red Cross steps in to help.

Days after an apartment building on Queens Avenue caught fire on Thursday, Aug. 7, none of the tenants have been allowed back in. On Tuesday, yellow tape and some workers were seen assessing and cleaning the damage left behind.

The City of Victoria tells CHEK News that 20 tenants were inside the building when it caught fire last Thursday. Since Monday, 13 have found alternative housing, but seven are still receiving emergency support services (ESS).

“This is kind of uncharted territory; we haven’t necessarily seen a situation like this,” said Douglas King, executive director for Together Against Poverty Society (TAPS).
