A trip to a Nickelback concert in the Cowichan Valley last Saturday night ended in a terrifying roadside incident for a group of friends walking along Youbou Road.

Riley Smith and three others had left the Laketown Ranch event early to beat the post-show traffic. With their ride stuck in the congestion, the four women decided to walk toward their accommodations in the direction of Meades Creek Road.

Ten minutes into their walk, Smith says a dark-coloured truck sped toward them in the eastbound lane.

“It was flying,” Smith recalled. “I saw an arm come out of the passenger side window holding something. He threw it — and it hit my friend right in the stomach. She dropped to the ground. We all dropped to the ground.”
