SELMA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The first day of school was cut short at Eric White Elementary in Selma, and school officials were powerless to do anything about it.
"Felt like when you turn on the oven, when you open it just hits you like that. It felt like that," said sixth grader Edgar Toralez.
Eric White students were without power and AC on Tuesday morning. The temperature in Selma was predicted to reach 105 degrees.
The school has been experiencing power outages since Monday afternoon, according to PG&E. The electricity company said a transformer failed, and power was going in and out until the problem was identified.
The elementary school and about two homes were impacted, but despite the hiccups, Monday night's open house still went on as planned. "And it was just as hot," said Adr
