FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man is dead, and two others were injured after a truck crashed down an embankment near Meadow Lakes early Wednesday morning, according to the Auberry Volunteer Fire Department.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. near Auberry Road and Beal Fire Road. Fire officials say that the victims were trapped in the vehicle and had to be rescued.

The driver and a passenger in the front seat were taken to the hospital with major injuries. A passenger in the backseat died at the scene.

Fire officials say the truck had to be secured to keep it from going down a 200-foot embankment.

One of the victims said they were in the area looking at meteor showers.
