There will be no dramatic playoff chase for the Minnesota Lynx when the WNBA regular season concludes in a month. That's because the Lynx, who lead the league with a 27-5 record, clinched a playoff spot Tuesday night.
Minnesota doesn't wrap up the regular season until Sept. 11, but it's now mathematically impossible for them to finish any lower than eighth in the league.
Next up is clinching the No. 1 seed, which is currently in their control as the second-best record in the WNBA belongs to the New York Liberty and Atlanta Dream, who are both 20-11 and 6.5 games behind the Lynx.
Up next for Minnesota is a date with the Liberty at Target Center in Minneapolis at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.
The game will be televised nationally on CBS.
