ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - On Monday night, the Roane County Board of Education voted to allow the superintendent to move forward with a consolidation process plan.
This comes after the West Virginia Board of Education issued a state of emergency last month.
“This is like looking at a surgery, and it’s not elective surgery,” Superintendent Michelle Stellato said. “It’s life-and-death surgery.”
Last fall, WSAZ reported on the potential to consolidate two schools in Roane County with a shrinking population.
“Geary Elementary-Middle school and Walton Elementary Middle-School would be consolidated, reconfigured with Spencer Elementary School, Spencer Middle School and Roane County High School,” Stellato said.
