A former New Jersey state trooper faces more than a decade in prison after admitting to arranging a meeting with a teenage girl in a police car, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Shane H. Dempsey, 32, of Brick, was arrested after chatting with an undercover detective disguised as a 14-year-old girl for sexual favors last summer, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said. Last week, Dempsey pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted sexual assault and third-degree official misconduct.
The plea agreement calls for prosecutors to recommend Dempsey spend seven years in New Jersey state prison while being ineligible for parole for two of them. He also must register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, in which he’ll be monitored for life, the county prosecutor said.
