Yearslong remediation work wrapping up at Fulton Gas Works site

As the city seeks proposals for the Intermediate Terminal Building, and as plans progress for a rehab of the nearby Armitage Building, a yearslong effort to prep land between them for potential development is nearing the finish line.

Richmond’s public utilities department is in the homestretch of its multiphased effort to remediate the former Fulton Gas Works site between Williamsburg Avenue and East Main Street.

The roughly 10-acre site, just west of Stone Brewing’s production facility, is across Williamsburg Avenue from the 130-year-old Armitage Building, which owner Wilton Cos. is planning to convert into apartments and commercial space.
