SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

California's Office of the Legislative Counsel will not publicly provide an opinion on whether a vote at the State Capitol next week to create new Congressional districts would be legal.

Legislative Counsel Cara Jenkins has rejected Republican Assemblyman Carl DeMaio's request to analyze the Democratic redistricting push and to make the opinion public after he sent a letter to her Tuesday morning.

DeMaio in the letter raised a series of legal questions and noted how the effort could violate the state constitution.
