Crispy with flakes of salt on the outside, fluffy with butter, sour cream and other ingredients you pick on the inside. That's what Erol and Elena Sinan offer at Spudshacks , which opened Aug. 4 at 224 N. College Ave., just off the downtown square in the former DK Sweets location .
The couple is from Turkey and came to U.S. eight years ago and central Indiana three years ago. They're bringing a little of their home country by providing stuffed baked potatoes, known as Cumpir in their native land. They say it's the original Turkish fast food.
Erol Sinan was surprised there aren't more baked potatoes — stuffed or otherwise — in U.S. restaurants. So, he and his wife decided to open Spudshacks as their a way of sharing a Balkan staple with Bloomington customers.
