COLUMBUS, Ohio — Dozens of people were displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in the Polaris area Wednesday morning.
The fire happened at The Avenue at Polaris on Indianapolis Avenue around 1 a.m., according to Lt. Nick Davis with the Columbus Division of Fire.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, Davis said there was significant fire coming from the roof. The blaze was upgraded to a second-alarm fire due to the size of the building and high life hazard, according to Davis.
Approximately 50 people were displaced because of the fire. No civilians were injured, according to Davis. The American Red Cross was called to assist.
Investigators believe the fire may have been caused by a lightning strike, Davis said, but they’re looking into all other potential causes.
