COLUMBUS, Ohio — On a hot summer day, in nearly 100-degree heat, bus drivers from across the South Western City School District started preparing for the school year.

James Morgan is the onboarding bus instructor for South Western City Schools and has been helping drivers get ready for the road for more than 15 years. One of the big challenges school districts across the country continue to face is recruiting and keeping drivers on the road. It was a big problem post-pandemic. Morgan, along with transportation officials from other districts, say recruitment and retainment have gotten slightly better every school year.

"Recruitment here has actually been pretty good. The students that come in, you know pretty quick whether they're going to make it or not," said Morgan
