OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha City Council held a public hearing for the 2026 budget Tuesday night.

That money is going in part to hiring 100 new officers and buying 30 cruisers. The budget also funds new emergency medical services and paramedic training. But that's just one of the topics discussed.

The Omaha City Council welcomed people to give their three-minute pitch on whether they support or oppose the city's 2026 budget.

Dozens showed up, making their feelings known about the 5.6% increase in general fund spending.

Both sides shared their opinions on what they believe the city should be prioritizing.

A hot topic was the police department's budget, which will be raised by nearly $30 million.
