SAN ANTONIO — More than 40,000 students in San Antonio ISD are in class for the first day of school.

Compared to 2024, the district has 1,500 more students registered this year to start class.

At Baskin Elementary, teachers welcomed students with open arms.

"The kids are excited. Families are excited. But that's how we always are. It's not just today. It's all the time at Baskin," said Nicole Campbell, Baskin Elementary Teacher.

One by one parents dropped off their kids for a new learning curriculum called STEAM.

Its short for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math with a focus on leadership health and wellness.
