A Fairbanks City Council member has withdrawn a resolution that would have required the city to notify the public of all meetings regarding the Polaris Building.

Valerie Therrien initially co-sponsored the resolution, citing frustration over a lack of transparency and her inability to attend Polaris Working Group meetings due to potential violations of the Alaska Open Meetings Act (OMA).

In past years, the working group — led by Mayor David Pruhs before his 2022 election — spearheaded efforts to secure funding to demolish the 11-story high-rise and determine how to redevelop the property. With the Polaris Building now gone, a new group including Pruhs, two council members, city staff, and architect C.B. Bettisworth is developing a plan for the site.
