CulturalDC Sells Source Theatre to Restaurateurs

For the local theater community, trouble has come to 14th Street.

On Aug. 8, Washington Business Journal reported that restaurateurs Geoff Dawson and Curt Large, under a joint venture, purchased the Source Theatre building at 1835 14th St. NW for $4.5 million. The acquisition happened last week, when 1835 14th Street LLC purchased the property from nonprofit arts collective CulturalDC. CulturalDC’s executive director Kristi Maiselman confirmed via email the transfer of the property to Dawson and Large (“a qualified buyer,” she said), after conducting “a competitive and proactive process.” Dawson and Large, who’ve previously joined forces on several bars in Northern Virginia and D.C., including Penn Quarters’ Rocket Bar, have yet to reveal their plans for the space, and Large did not respo
