August and September are known to be active when it comes to hurricane season, and the peak of hurricane season is a month away, usually occurring around September 12th. When it comes to tropical development, currently, Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the Atlantic Ocean.
Erin is expected to continue moving west and strengthening to a Category 3 hurricane by the weekend into early next week, north of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
