SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - A Midlands man has been accused of sexual assault while on a church bus.
The Sumter Police Department said Wednesday that Luke Stewart was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Officials said Stewart’s arrest came after Sumter police were alerted by leadership at Jehovah Missonary Baptist Church of alleged sexual assaults. According to police, a woman accused Stewart of sexually assaulting her multiple times.
Stewart was also identified by police as the church’s bus driver.
Records show Stewart was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on Wednesday. He is awaiting a bond hearing as of 12:30 p.m.
An investigation is still ongoing.
The Sumter Police Department said it encourages victims of sexual assault to report thes
