The RNC confirms it is investigating a series of suspicious fires in the capital city region, even as most of the northern Avalon is operating under a State of Emergency.

RNC say within a two-hour period between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, four brush fires occurred over an area covering a few blocks of the downtown.

The fires occurred on Lemarchant Road and New Gower Street, one of which was behind city hall.

RNC are commending the St. John’s Regional Fire Department for its quick response. There were no injuries or structural damage as a result.

Investigators believe one person is responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC.
