MADISON COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) - Officials in one Nebraska county are warning residents of a new scam targeting family members of those who’ve been arrested.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, these warnings come after a person was booked into the Madison County Jail. A scammer contacted a family member of this person.
Deputies say the caller claimed the person who was arrested could be released on bond for less than the listed bond amount if the inmate was placed on an ankle monitoring system.
The family member was then instructed to pay via the Cash App platform, which they did, but soon discovered it was a scam.
