CHICAGO — A news conference is expected Wednesday with an announcement related to the fatal 2024 police-involved shooting of Dexter Reed.

Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke will make the announcement around 1:30 p.m.

Reed was shot and killed during a traffic stop in March of 2024 in the city’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability released video a few weeks following the shooting that showed an exchange of gunfire between Chicago police officers and Reed in the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street.

An investigation and autopsy showed that plainclothes Chicago police officers fired their guns nearly 100 times at Reed, striking him 13 times.
