PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon State Police said the two men who allegedly vandalized and stole salmon from a fish trap at a hatchery in southern Oregon have come forward.
The men had been identified after OSP put out a request to the public last Monday.
A trail camera captured two masked individuals on July 5, at 5 a.m., approaching the outflow fish trap at the Cole Rivers Fish Hatchery. One of them waded across the river and ripped the antenna off the cellular camera, while the other remained on shore, holding what looked like a large salmon net, OSP said.
The next day, responding fish and wildlife troopers found the broken antenna and trail camera pushed to the side. The lock to the fish trap had been cut to gain access to the fish inside, where an unknown number of salmon had been taken.
