Former Governor Andrew Cuomo is overhauling his image in a last-ditch effort to stop socialist Zohran Mamdani from becoming New York City’s next mayor. After a decisive 13-point loss in the Democratic primary, Cuomo is now running as an independent and adopting a new, aggressive social media persona.

Gone are the buttoned-up press releases. In their place are Gen Z slang, emojis, and a barrage of attacks aimed squarely at his 33-year-old rival.

Cuomo has challenged Mamdani to a “heavyweight bout” on X and questioned his opponent’s well-to-do background, calling him a “nepo baby” despite his own political lineage.
