First Major Hurricane of 2025 Atlantic Season Possible by Weekend

Tropical Storm Erin is gaining strength and has shifted its track further to the west, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm’s westward motion and intensification raise concerns for the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, which could experience impacts as early as this weekend.

As of the 5 p.m. EDT advisory, Erin was located about 1,200 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1,001 mb.
